The Morritt Hotel

The present Morritt dates back to the late 17th Century when there was a farm on the site. Some of the farm outbuildings were used as such until this century when they were converted into the hotel and surrounding buildings. With the advent of the “horse-less carriage” the motor car, a motor repair shop, also dispensing petrol was built onto the Morritt and this ensured its survival as a travellers’ resting-place.

The Brief

Premier Platform Lifts were approached to provide a cost effective solution for disabled access within their new Spa facility which was to be sited in the former Garage (hence the name ‘The Garage Spa’). Our brief was to install a fully DDA Compliant Platform Lift into a new block-work shaft, providing access to 2 floors. The lift area was quite dark due to their being no natural light to the lift & staircase area. The Hotel owners wanted the lift to look modern but blend in with the interior decor and scheme of the new 5* Spa.

The Solution

The solution was our VPL500 hydraulic Platform Lift with fully glazed aluminium doors, with a Part M compliant 1400mm x 1100mm platform. We proposed to install the lift into a shaft-way provided by the builder so only the doors were visible, enabling the interior decorators to finish off the external shaft with a finish that complemented the surroundings.

Installation

The lift was fitted with LCD displays to the cabin and landing entrances along with voice annunciation, auto dialler, handrail and mirror, making it accessible to ALL the Hotel/Spa guests and staff. The installation was completed in only a couple of days, on time and on budget

Testimonial

“The hotel value all customers equally, providing access for all visitors to our hotel has always been a priority. The new Spa facility was no exception despite restrictions on site which were overcome through a professional and pro-active approach by the Premier team”
