Sherborne Girls School is an independent day and boarding school for girls located in Dorset. The School was founded in 1899 with buildings dating back to the 15th
Century. Currently more than 400 pupils attend the school of which 90% live on Campus.
Premier Platform Lifts were approached to provide a cost effective solution for disabled access to one of the Grade 2 listed buildings. This area of the building had challenged many lift companies before and had almost been deemed impossible, but not to Premier Platform lifts.
Our brief was to install a fully DDA Compliant Platform Lift into an existing stairwell, providing access to all 3 floors. The space was tight and the area quite dark due to the old small windows to the staircase area.
The solution was our VPL500 hydraulic platform lift specially configured to fit, whilst maintaining the 1400mm x 1100mm Part M platform size. We proposed to install the lift in our bespoke designed self- supporting fully glazed structure, allowing the light to pass through to ensure the stairwell was not to dark.
The installation was completed in less than a week on time and on budget with no problems on site, achieved by working closely with the contractor and undertaking a comprehensive site survey.
The lift was fitted with LCD displays to the cabin and landing entrances along with voice annunciation, auto dialler, handrail and mirror, making it accessible to ALL the restaurant visitors and staff.
